Devastating landslide at Marangching : One more body found, death toll now at 48

Imphal, July 06 2022:
The death count from the devastating landslide that struck Marangching recently has risen to 48 as one more corpse was retrieved today while 13 others remain missing.
Reportedly, the corpse was retrieved from Ijei River on Day 7 of the search and rescue operation.
The deceased has been identified as Subedar Umesh Lama of 107 Territorial Army and the mortal remains have been deposited at JNIMS mortuary.
The search began on June 30 by a team of SDRF, NDRF, Assam Rifles and police using wall radar machine, search dogs and other machinery such as excavators.
Meanwhile, the Relief & Disaster Management Minister visited the site of the deadly landslide for the 5th time today.
Later, the Minister convened a review meeting with the rescue officials and Noney DC.
Union Minister of State for External Affairs RK Ranjan also visited the landslide hit area in Noney, yesterday and he assured to apprise the Union Railway Ministry to review the area where railway project is being taken up to prevent any catastrophe in future.
