Two convicted for grenade attack

RK Memcha, Special Judge NIA Manipur on Wednesday convicted two active cadres of a banned underground outfit who carried out a grenade attack at the gate of Raj Bhavan on January 19 last year and fixed July 12 for sentence hearing.
Convict Lisham Ibosana @ Kengba @ Micheal @ Red (42), s/o (L) Samungou of Khongman Lisham Leikai was produced from Manipur Central Sajiwa while convict Konsam Manithoi (46), s/o Bihari of Lairikyengbam Leikai Salanthong who is presently on bail on medical ground appeared before the Court for hearing of the charges levelled against them by NIA.
The Court after hearing the submission of the Special PP NIA and defence counsels and on perusal of the material on record framed charges against the convicts under Section 307/ 120B IPC writ with Section 16/18/20/38 UA (P) Act and Section 4 of Explosive Substance Act on finding prima facie case against them.
The charges framed against the convicts were explained by the Court in the presence of their counsels and both the convicts pleaded guilty.
As Lisham Ibosana and Konsam Manithoi pleaded guilty, the Court convicted them under Section 307/ 120B IPC writ with Section 16/18/20/38 UA (P) Act and Section 4 of Explosive Substance Act.
The Court then remanded both of them to judicial custody till July 12 .
Both the convicts were arrested from their respective residences on January 24, 2021 and eight circuit boards and two remote control units used in assembling the Improvised Explosive Device were seized from their possession.
The investigation of the case was handed over to the NIA by an order of the Ministry of Home Affairs.
