Imphal, July 06 2022:
The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has urged the State Government to distribute fertilizers to the farmers on time.
In a letter addressed to the Agriculture Director, the MPCC also urged the Government to chalk out proper guidelines to distribute fertilizers especially urea to the farmers directly at the approved price at the earliest, publish the receipt and issue stock position of the urea daily and punish the culprit involved in smuggling urea and other fertilizers.
The letter was submitted to the Agriculture Director by representatives of MPCC central organisations including Kishan Cell and youth wing today at Sanjenthong.
The MPCC claimed that some farmers are compelled to buy urea at very high price from the black market and it contradicts the statement of Agriculture Minister Thongam Biswajit who assured to book all involved in black marketing of fertilizers.
Recalling that truckloads of fertilizers were seized by Churachandpur police at Tuining village on June 22, the MPCC claimed that the fertilizers were purchased from a dealer as per a credible source.
Asking how the fertilizers meant for the farmers were transported without the knowledge of the authority concerned, the MPCC contended that the fertilizers are to be distributed to the farmers through the MLAs concerned.
What is the criteria for the distribution of the urea to the MLAs and subsequently to the farmers as there are no specific guidelines available to the public as yet, it asked and claimed that there were instances where some MLAs in urban areas received urea quota where there are no paddy fields.
