Noney, October 08 2022:
Water Resources and Relief & Disaster Management minister Awangbow Newmai on Saturday released the first instalment of 'Awangbow Newmai special scheme for widow, orphan and disabled' amounting to Rs 4,50,000 to 300 beneficiaries including widows, widowers, orphans and differently-abled people selected, from across Tamei assembly constituencies.
Minister Awangbow released the scheme fund to the beneficiaries with prayers from United Baptist Church (UBC), Tamenglong pastor Ch Widabou at Shekinuh Inn, Tamenglong district headquarters.
Under this special scheme, a financial benefit of Rs 500 per month is provided to eligible widows, widowers, orphans and differently-abled people and it is payable after every three, months.
The money will be transferred directly into the bank account of the beneficiaries.
Speaking on the occasion, Awangbow pointed out that though the government is implementing various schemes for the people, those schemes cannot coVer all the deserving people and as such 'Awangbow Newmai special scheme for widow, orphan and disabled' has been introduced from his monthly package of 65 per cent and some voluntary donations from supporters and well-wishers.
He added that the scheme will be in existence until the current term of 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly.
Awangbow acknowledged that Tamei is one of the least developed constituencies in the state.
Considering the geographical location, lack of modern facilities and low economy, Tamei and Tousem sub-divisions have become one of the most backward sub-divisions in terms of development.
He noted that in the absence of proper healthcare facilities and lack of awareness, mortality rate is high in the constituency.
As a result, there are numerous widows, widowers, orphans and people with disabilities.
The scheme will be expanded since many more deserving people are yet to be covered, he assured.
The minister also mentioned that a committee was formed to shortlist beneficiaries based on the recommendations made by the respective village chairmen.
During the programme one Hembuiliu, who came from Namtiram village, expressed words of appreciation for launching the scheme and said that she will continue to pray and support minister Awangbow in the days to come.
Former ADC chairman of Tamenglong Namsinrei Pan-mei, ex-ADC members and officials of NPF attended the event.
