Role and responsibilities of CSOs in conflict situations deliberated

Indian Red Cross Society, Manipur State Branch Chairman, Dr Yanglem Mohen has expressed that civil society organisations (CSOs) should be able to take neutral and independent decisions when solving a conflict situation after thorough analysis.
He made the above statement while speaking at the one day conference on "The role and responsibility of civil society in conflict situation of Manipur" held at Manipur Dramatic Union (MDU) hall, Yaiskul Police Lane organised by League of Indigenous People (LIP) .
He further maintained that whenever a conflict situation arises, the CSOs should try and take up appropriate measures to solve it for the betterment of the society.

With regards to conflict situations in Manipur, he opined that CSOs should never work as a frontal body of any organisation inorder to gain the trust of the masses.
CSOs should always work for society's welfare and not for some personal gains, he continued.
In context of the confused nature of granting Scheduled Tribe status to some indigenous communities of the State while some are left out, he appealed to the CSOs to look into the matter and bring an amicable solution.
Addressing the gathering, LIP convenor, Rakesh Moirangthem said that the conference has been organised to discuss the role and responsibilities of CSOs in solving a conflict situation in a transparent and fair manner.
Presenting the keynote address, LIP secretary, Phalguni Irengbam stated that CSOs have been contributing in a number of societal issues to safeguard the unity of the society to promote a harmonious environment.
In a state like Manipur, where conflict situations come up frequently, he maintained that CSOs have a crucial role to play in solving these issues in a peaceful way.
President of Manipur State Food Commission, Thokchom Saimon attended the occasion as the presidium members among others while Professor Ch Priyoranjan of Economics Department Manipur University, former Associate Professor Dr Haobam Indrakumar; Kabui Union Manipur president, Dr Kamei Heera Kabui; Indigenous Minority Organization of Manipur president, Ringenson Thanga and Human rights activist Joykumar Wahengbam spoke as the resource person.
