Tamenglong, October 08 2022:
Water Resources Department and Relief & Disaster Management Minister Awangbow Newmai has released first installment of over Rupees 4,50,000 (four lakh fifty thousands) as financial aid to 300 beneficiaries including widows, widowers, orphans and differently abled persons across 52-Tamei Assembly Constituency.
The Minister released the amount to beneficiaries with prayers from United Baptist Church (UBC), Tamenglong Pastor Ch Widabou at Shekinuh Inn, Tamenglong Headquarter on Saturday.
Under this special scheme, a financial benefit of Rs 500 per month is provided to the eligible widows, widowers, orphans and differently abled personnel.
The benefit is payable every three months.
The money is transferred directly to the bank accounts of the beneficiares.
Speaking on the occasion, Awangbow said that though the Government is implementing various schemes for them, those schemes cannot cover all the people and as such "l'm launching this scheme.
While I produce about 65 percent of the package, the remaining is made from voluntary donations from fellow supporters and well wishers" .
He added that the scheme will continue till the end of the current term of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly.
He further acknowledged that Tamei is one of the "least" developed Assembly Constituencies in the State.
Owing to the geographical location, lack of modern facilities and low economy, Tamei and Tousem Sub-divisions have become two of the most backward Sub-divisions in terms of development.
He stressed that in the absence of proper healthcare facilities and lack of awareness, mortality rate is high in the Constituency.
As a result, there are numerous widows, widowers, orphans and disabled persons.
He said the scheme will expand to cover more deserving people who have been left out.
He mentioned that a committee has been formed to shortlist beneficiaries from the recommendations submitted by village Chairmen.
During the programme, Hembuiliu from Namtiram village appreciated Awangbow for the scheme and added she will continue to pray and support the Minister in days to come.
The programme was also attended by former ADC Chairman of Tamenglong Namsinrei Panmei, ex-ADC Members and officials of the NPF party.
