Imphal, October 08 2022:
Shiv Sena, Manipur has urged the State Government to review the decision taken by MAHUD on reserving the seat of Ward no 5 of Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) for Scheduled Tribe women.
Speaking to media persons at Babupara today, senior vice-president of the party Moirangthem Tikendra said that MAHUD conducted a lottery in connec- tion with the forthcoming elections of 27 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) including IMC to reserve certain seats for women and ST.
Saying that there were issues at some Wards of IMC including Ward no 5 on the matter of seat reservation, he added that a particular seat has to be reserved for ST if at least 11 per cent of the Ward's populace belong to ST.
Asking if tribals staying at Ward no 5 specially at Lamphel, Sanakeithel, PWD quarters, RIMS quarters and other places of the Ward have been enrolled as voters of the Ward, he added that electors are not permitted to enlist themselves in the electoral rolls from multiple places.
He then urged the authority concerned to review and withdraw the decision taken to reserve Ward no 5 for ST and find out if there are any bogus voters or multiple enrolment by same voters.
