Dr RK Ranjan moots idea of identifying and opening adequate Geotourism sites in Manipur

Union Minister of State for Education Dr RK Ranjan has mooted the idea of identifying and opening adequate Geotourism sites in Manipur.
He was addressing virtually as the chief guest at the State level seminar on Geoheritage conservation and Loktak Lake which was jointly organized by Federation of Government College Teachers' Association (FEGOCTA) and NG College, Uripok at the auditorium of the college as part of the International Geo Diversity Day observation.
The Union Minister of State said that the identification and opening of Geotourism sites will attract many tourists in the State besides giving a good impact to the economy of the locals.

Saying that Manipur is blessed with rich biodiversity and Geo heritage, he opined that Loktak Lake is one of the significant and remarkable lakes if one sees it from the perspective of Geo-heritage.
'When we do deeper research on the Loktak Lake, one would clearly understand how the Manipur Valley had been created in ancient times', Ranjan added.
He also said that the lake has close links to the Manipuri culture and traditions, including the Moirang Kangleirol and Khamba Thoibi's folk tale.
Pointing out that there are many sites in the State which can be recognized as Geo-heritage, the Union Minister of State contended that the values associated with the Loktak Lake will be quite significant and deserving while trying to characterize Geo-herirage sites to the outside world.
Ranjan added that the Kangkhu Cave, Tharon Cave, Mova Cave, Djuko Valley and Barak Waterfall are also some of the recognizable geo-heritage sites in the State.
Stressing on the need for promoting Geo-tourism, he stated that imparting Geo-education and deeper research into the rich biodiversity and bounty nature of the State has become the need of the hour.
The function was also attended by FEGOCTA Vice president K Sanaton Sharma; School of Human and Environmental Science, Manipur University's Dean, Professor Soibam Ibotombi; Ng College Principal Ashok RC and Thambal Marik College, Oinam Principal, Professor Kh Mohon as the presidium members.
