Bishnupur, October 08 2022:
While alleging that job card holders of Toubul GP have been denied of their rightful wages for 35 days for the year 2021-22, Toubul Welfare Association secretary Th Bir said denying wages of job card holders is a clear violation of their rights, especially when the scheme guidelines require payment of compensation in case of delaying wages for more than 15 days.
Addressing a press meet at Toubul Keithel here on Saturday, Bir said that there are 1447 job card holders under Toubul GP.
The Centre released Rs 757,49,62,000 to the state for MGNREGS, which consists of wages and material cost.
Of the total works carried out under MGNREGS, 25 per cent are executed under Zila Parishad, 25 per cent under line departments through the local MLA and the remaining 50 per cent by the Gram Panchayat.
The way the government is releasing wages is creating confusion among the job card holders as there is no pattern and the beneficiaries can no longer trace how much wages they have received, he said, while urging the authority concerned to release funds as soon as they are allocated by the Centre.
One of the job card holders, who was present in the press meet, said that they have been denied of their wages for long and they want the government to release the pending wages before the Ningol Chakkouba, which a grand and important festival of the state.
Villagers have their own lifestyle with most of them engaged in agricultural works.
They are working under the scheme with the hope of getting their wages in time while leaving aside their routine works.
The beneficiary also warned of launching intense agitation if the government fails to release their pending wages soon.
