No culture implies no identity: Nishikant

MLA Nishikant Singh Sapam has categorically stated that no Nation/community would have any identity if there is no culture.
The MLA was speaking at the 29th Guru Kirtana Seva 2022 cum two-day National seminar on Nat Sankirtan held at Gulapi Nata Sankirtana Academy, Kwakeithel Nganapi Thong Mapal this afternoon.
Nishikant said that culture is the most basic foundation of human civilisation.
"Without culture, we could not have any identity.
To protect and promote our culture is a foremost duty of each one of us", he asserted.
The annual Kirtana Seva organised by the Gulapi Nata Sankirtana Academy in honour of distinguished Gurus can be seen as an act of promoting Manipuri culture, he said.
He also wished that the academy may continue to preserve and promote Manipuri culture for many years to come.

There should be no place for politics in religion or dharma but politics should be guided by dharma, Nishikant said.
He reiterated that he would fulfil all the assurances he gave to the people during the last State Assembly election.
Nishikant gave away Guru Khwairakpam Leibak-macha Award and Khwairakpam Wangkhei Award to well known Nat Sankirtan artiste Kshetrimayum (O) Thourani Sabi and Meitei Pung artiste Sougaijam Thanil respectively.
Led by the MLA, the gathering paid floral tributes to photographs of expired Gurus of Nata Sankirtan.
Ranganiketan International Centre for Manipuri Art and Culture Chairman Ajit Das said that the tradition and heritage of Nat Sankirtan cannot be compared with anything else.
Nat Sankirtan is a sublime cultural form which paves way for one to transcend from material world to spiritual world, Ajit Das said.
He called upon young students of Nat Sankirtan to disseminate the values and ideas of Nat Sankirtan by following the footsteps of their Gurus.
Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy Director P Bilash too attended the function as guest of honour.
The opening session of the National seminar on Nat Sankirtan was moderated by Assam University, Department of Manipuri, Head Prof Haobam Nonikumar Singha.
The seminar would conclude tomorrow.
