Imphal, October 08 2022:
Shiv Sena Manipur Unit has sought a fresh survey of IMC Ward No.5 if the ward is to be reserved for Scheduled Tribe.
Addressing a press meet at the party office here on Saturday, Shiv Sena Manipur senior vice-president Moirangthem Tikendra said that IMC Ward No.5 has a total population of around 9000 people.
Almost all of the ST voters in government quarters are double voters, who enjoy voting rights in their respective home districts as well and so reserving the seat for ST on the basis of these double voters is uncalled for.
Shiv Sena believes that Ward No 5 will not meet the criteria for reserving seat for ST without counting those double voters, he said while demanding a fresh survey before finalising on the reservation.
He also termed the ST seat reservation in valley area unacceptable while pointing out that Meetei population in Churachandpur never get any seat reservation.
General secretary (administration) Chingkham Chandramani pointed out flaws in the lottery for seat reservation conducted for IMC elections as the selection of reservation cycle should begin from 2015 as IMC was converted to a corporation from council in this year.
However, the authority selected cycle 1 from 2010, he added.
