Imphal, October 08 2022:
League of Indigenous People (LIP) organised a one-day conference on Roles and Responsibilities of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Conflict Situation of Manipur at MDU Hall, Yaiskul Police Lane, here, on Saturday.
Indian Red Cross Society, Manipur State chairman Dr Yanglem Mohen, LIP convenor Rakesh Moirangthem and Manipur State Food Commission active president Thokchom Solomon attended the discourse as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Mohen stressed the need for the CSOs to remain neutral on any issue and getting involved to bring solution only after closely examining the evolving situation.
Further advising that CSOs should remain independent in order to take unbiased decision freely through proper analysis, he conveyed that IRCS is car tying out humanity services and there are several CSOs working on social issues.
Such CSOs should make their contribution towards bringing peace, development in the society and resolve issues, he contended.
LIP general secretary Phalguni Irengbam said that there will always be roles and responsibilities of CSOs even in a peaceful society though the responsibility is greater in a conflict situation.
CSOs in the state have been playing major role in bringing up social issues like rights violation, AFSPA, involuntary disappearances, fake encounters, government policies, gender crimes, unity and integrity among others.
Amid these issues, the state is also on the crosswalk of an ethnic conflict, polarisation and identity crisis, which only increase the responsibilities of the CSOs, the secretary said while emphasising on the need for the CSOs to uphold their integrity and do the right thing for a better future of the society.
Manipur University department of economics professor Ch Priyoranjan, retired associate professor Dr Haobijam Indrakumar, Indigenous Minority Organisation of Manipur president Ringson Thangal, Kabui Union Manipur president Dr Kamei Hera Kabui and human rights activist Wahengbam Joykumar spoke as resource persons during the conference.
