Cyclist Maonorama pedals her way to gold as Nungshithoi, Bembem take bronze in judo

Imphal, October 08 2022:
It was another productive day for Manipur in the 36th National Games on Saturday as Tongbram Monorama Devi pedalled her way to gold medal in cycling while L Nungshithoi Chanu and L Bembem Devi claimed bronze medals in judo.
Tongbram Monorama secured Manipur's sixth gold medal after she was the fastest in the women's 85kg road race event.
Chayanika Gogoi of Assam bagged the silver medal and Pooja Baban Danole of Maharashtra completed the podium.
The state cyclists proved themselves peerless by dominating the medal tally with 10 medals including six gold and two each of silver and bronze medals.
Services trailed behind with three gold and one bronze, followed by Haryana (2 gold, 2 silver), West Bengal (2 gold, 1 silver) and Maharashtra completed the top five with two gold and four bronze medals.
Day 10 of the Games also saw Manipur collect two more bronze medals in judo.
L Nungshithoi Chanu settled for the bronze medal after losing out to Pincky Balhara of Delhi in the -52kg category, which was won by Mizoram's Lalhumhimi who beat Pincky in their gold-medal duel.
Snehal Ramesh of Maharashtra shared the bronze with Nungshithoi.
L Bembem, on the other hand, faltered in the -57kg semifinal to claim her bronze medal.
Bembem bested Sneha Chauhan of Uttarakhand in the first round and Sandhya of Haryana in the second round on her way to the semifinal.
In the final, Madhya Pradesh's Yamini Mourya defeated Savitiri of Haryana.
Suchika Tariyal of Haryana was another bronze medallist in the -57kg event.
Following the Saturday's results, Manipur remained ninth in medal tally with 15 gold, five silver and 14 bronze.
