Wildlife Week observance concludes

The 67th Wildlife Week observance organised by the state forest department concluded at Manipur Zoological Garden, Iroisemba, here, on Saturday.
Forest, environment and climate change minister Thongam Biswajit, Hiyanglam MLA Dr Yumnam Radheshyam, principal chief conservator of forests (PCCF) Dr Aditya Kumar Joshi, assistant PCCF Soreiphi Vashum and other senior officials of the department attended the valedictory function as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Biswajit acknowledged that the forest department alone cannot protect the wildlife without the public support and participation.
The public have a big responsibility to play in protecting the wildlife, he said.
Pointing out that less sightings of wild animals and birds in the open ground except in the zoo shows the dwindling population of wildlife, he called for a joint initiative to repopulate the wildlife.
Expressing concern over the poor state of Manipur Zoological Garden, he assured of renovating the facility soon.
Dr Khangembam Samungou's book 'My fair lady comes to animal garden' based on state bird Nong-in was released on the occasion.
Prizes of the photography and other competitions organised in relation with the Wildlife Week observance were also distributed during the function.
