Guru Kirtan Seva underway, two Gums honoured

The 29th Guru Kirtan Seva which is being organised by Gulapi Nata Sankirtana Academy, Kwakeithel Nganappithong Mapal has begun along with a seminar at the academy premises from Saturday.
Keishamthong MLA Sapam Nishikant, Ranganiketan International Centre for Manipur chairman Ajit Das and JN Manipur Dance Academy director P Bilash attended the inaugural programme of the two-day event as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Nishikant emphasised on the importance of promoting culture, which is part of a community's identity.
He appreciated the contribution made by the academy and its instructors in the field of art and culture and wished them long and healthy life to continue their service to the society.
The MLA said that nobody should attempt to bring politics in culture and religion.
While stating that politicians should be man of integrity and uphold their commitment, Nishikant asserted that as had been repeatedly declared in the run-up to the assembly election not to involve in any corrupt activities, he will keep his promise.
Meanwhile, P Bilash hailed the academy for its tradition of worshipping teachers and also appreciated the works of Guru Lakhpati and late Guru Gulapi in the field.
He urged the academy to collect the seminar papers and compiled them for publication as a book, while assuring of his assistance in this regard.
Guru L Lakhpati expressed hope that the seminar will prove helpful to students.
As a part of the programme, Padmashri awardee Kshetrimayum Thouranisabi was honoured with Guru Khwairakpam Leibakmacha Awards while Padmashri awardee Sougaijam Thanil was honoured with Oja Khwairakpam Wangkhei Award.
