Solo Dance Fest begins at JNMDA

The five-day long Rajarshi Bhagyachandra Solo Dance Festival organised by Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy (JNMDA), Imphal kicked oft from Saturday at the auditorium of the academy.
The opening ceremony of the festival pressed over by JNMDA director P Bilash was held with Pradhan Guru M Kaminikumar as chief guest while former senior choreographer and Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee Th Chaotombi and Sangeet Natak Akademy general council member Sh Nabachandra Sharma were guests of honour.
Regarding the festival, P Bilash said Manipur is filled with art and culture but there is sign of gradual decadence of different art forms of'the state.
JNMDA has been putting efforts to preserve and protect the rich art forms of Manipur and will continue to do so and the festival is being organised in this spirit, he said, adding that the academy is planning to organise the festival at the national level.
On the opening day, Nirina Yambem of JNMDA presented her solo dance, entitled 'Prositavtirka Nayika' as also 'Hari Riha' by academy's Babina Cha-nam and Ng Bonu Chanu of Anoy Sindam Shanglen's 'Mahirel Sidaba' .
Manipur Dance Foundation School's Ch Rohit also presented his solo dance, entitled 'Dasa Avatar' while W Telish of Tarun Kumar Foundation presented 'Radha Abhisar' .
Thangjing Art and Culture Academy's K Monika also presented her solo dance, entitled 'Krishna Kainarabi Yashoda' on the opening day.
