Imphal, March 12 2022:
Congress party on Saturday said that the elections results were not the mandate given by the people of the state but BJP got what it wanted.
Addressing a press conference at Congress Bhawan here on Saturday; AICC leader Bhakta Charan Das claimed that the results were not the true mandate given by the public.
It was the outcome of EVM fraud as well as manipulation carried out by the ruling party in collusion with ECI, state administration, police and presiding officers among others.
It is highly suspicious to see a great jump in the poll percentage by 10 to 12 per cent in the last hour of polling.
Though Congress party always honour the public mandate, the new government cannot keep the public in the dark like they did in the past and Congress will keep a close watch on the policies and activities of the new government, he said.
Presiding officers and district SPs did nothing when BJP workers carried out violence against INC supporters during the polling hours and it is a clear example of the officials working in favour of BJR The state is witnessing such unpreceded poll violence this time, he said and alleged that BJP used Kuki and Naga UG groups to secure win of its candidates.
He also demanded the government to finalise the talks with both the Kuki UG groups and NSCN-1M.BC Das further said that Congress party is not happy with the way how EVMs were manipulated and how counting of postal ballots was done while terming these activities as the reason for absolute majority of BJP.
One can find out the truth if the postal ballots of Wabagai assembly constituency were re-counted, he said while demanding the election authority to bring out the details of the postal ballots of the constituency.
Das then said that he, on behalf of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, is thanking the people of the state, who supported Congress party despite various threats and intimidation.
Congress party will bring up public issues in the state assembly, he assured, while adding that the party will launch a membership drive within a week.
MPCC president N Loken also thanked the party's supporters and said that the election was conducted in a way that the party never thought of.
Congress would have got the true public mandate if the election was conducted in a democratic manner, he said.
It is suspicious how BJP's new and unknown faces received such huge votes.
BJP misused its power to retain power and the fate of the state is uncertain today.
However, Congress hopes that the new government will work in the interest of the public, he added.
