Imphal, March 12 2022:
With Khwairamband Keithel in heart of Imphal city almost becoming a dumping site for wastes, some citizens have expressed concern over pitiable condition of the surrounding of the historic all women market in the state.
Manipur government is working hard to develop Imphal to the level of smart city but the present condition of the surrounding areas of all three Khwairamband Keithel is disheartening.
Nagamapal stretch and road on the eastern side of temporary market are almost like vast dumping sites.
The condition of the road leading to family welfare department on the eastern side of temporary market has worsened as it has been almost converted into an open waste disposal zone.
Collection of solid waste by IMC had stopped for the past five days or so and this has created more inconvenience to the people.
A visitor at Khwairamaband Keithel told The People's Chronicle that government is making tall claims of making all out efforts to transform Imphal city to a smart city but the present condition of surrounding of Khwairamband Keithel is disheartening and it would not be enticing for foreign visitors.
Apart from this, piling up of unhygienic debris could spread health hazard, the visitor said and drew immediate attention of the government and authority concerned.
Mention may be made here that solid waste management plant at Lamdeng is the dumping site for wastes collected by IMC and NGOs from Imphal city.
However, dumping of wastes at the plant had stopped since the commencement of celebration of Lamdeng sylvan deity festival on March 7 and it will continue till March 17.Accordingly, no wastes from Imphal city would be dumped at the Lamdeng plant.
The same problem was faced in the past but government is yet to find an alternative dumping site till date.
