Imphal, March 12 2022:
Communist Party of India-Manipur State Council (CPI-MSC) secretary L Sotinkumar has attributed BJP's win in the recent elections by getting absolute majority to a play of money power, muscle power and gun culture.
According to a statement released by party assistant secretary M Joykumar Lu-wang, Sotinkumar accused the BJP of undermining the democratic principle at the four-day meeting of party's national council which commenced Saturday at Ajay Bhavan, New Delhi.
Sotinkumar pointed out that BJP used Kuki outfits which are under Suspension of Operation (SoO) to ensure the victories of its (BJP) candidates in the hill districts.
Additionally, a student was killed in Heirok in pre-poll violence but the Court granted bail to the accused persons, which clearly shows that the government was covering up the criminal activities.
On top of this, the JD (U) candidate for Kshetrigao AC was also shot at, while another man in Wangjing Tentha was shot dead and several houses destroyed in the constituency.
However, the state's Home Department turned a blind eye to such incidents, the statement said.
The first phase of the polls alone witnessed BJP agents preventing the entry of agents of other candidates, while some polling booths saw proxy voting by BJP agents and destruction of the EVMs.
In short, the election was not held in a free and fair manner, which is well-known through the national TV channels and print media.
Meanwhile, over 100 polling stations should have been ordered for re-poll but only 12 for the first phase and 7 in the second phase were up for re-poll.
Ahead of the re-poll for Wangjing Hodamba polling station, BJP workers thrashed the workers and agent of a Congress candidate, and also grabbed the Aadhaar and EPIC cards of voters, so as to win the elections by hook or crook.
Apart from this, houses of over 30 Congress supporters in Sugnu were attacked and 12 vehicles parked in front of a polling camp of a Congress candidate were damaged.
Sotinkumar further said in the meeting that CPI-MSC experienced defeat in the polls because of lack of prior preparation, and sizable amount of funding.
Thus, to ensure the party's victory in the next polls and take part in the local body elections, there is need to reorganise the party at lo cal and branch levels, he suggested.
