National conference on 'Pi' begins

Imphal, March 12 2022:
A 3-day long national conference, which is being organised on line by Department of Mathematic, Manipur University in connection with the observance of 'International Pi Day', began on Saturday.
Presided over by Mathematics Department head Prof O Ratnabala, the inaugural function of the national conference was attended by MU VC Prof N Lokendra as chief guest while Delhi University Mathematics department ex-Prof SC Arora, MU Mathematics Depart ment ex-Prof Ng Ibohal, MU School of Mathematics and Physical Sciences Dean Prof K Yugindro and MU Registrar Prof W Chandbabu were present as guests of honour.
Delivering the keynote address, Prof Lo-kendra highlighted the role played by mathematics in the advancement of science and technology, and solving different scientific questions.
The mathematical constant, Pi' is an important partner of the human civilisation with its usage in different scientific calculations and architectural documents.
The conduct of such conferences will benefit and encourage the student community in many ways, he opined.
