PREPAK salutes 'martyrs'

The proscribed People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) has offered revolutionary salute to those who had sacrificed their lives in the "war of Manipur's independence" and prayed for their souls on the day of Martyrs Day, November 12 .
The outfit has also called all the people in the State to pay floral tributes to the late martyrs on the day.
A statement signed by PREPAK Assistant Secretary, Publicity and Propaganda, Leibak Ngakpa Luwang said that the outfit has been observing martyrs day on every November 12 since 1979 .
Calling on all not to organize any entertainment activities on the day, the statement appealed all to lit lamps in every household at 7 pm.
Recalling an incident on November 12, 1978, the statement said that a combined force of Manipur Police, led by Sub Inspector Sunil Sharma and his Assistant Sub-Inspector Naorem Shyamjai Singh and CRPF led by Commandant Narendra Pal attacked the transit camp of PREPAK at Leimarok of Kameng.
PREPAK cadres namely, Ayekpam Dhiren alias Angam of
Sagolband Tera Loukrakpam Leikai, Phurailatpam Kabikanta alias Leimu alias Leingam of Sagolband Meino Leirak and PLA cadre Pukhrambam Gambhir Singh of Kakwa Naorem Leikai
fought till the end and sacrificed their lives for the Manipur people at 8.10 am, added the statement.
PREPAK further said that few members of the outfit tried to overpower and snatch weapons from the 7th Manipur Rifles personnel who were posted at Sugar Mill, Kabo Wakching in November 12, 1985.But one sentry personnel suddenly fired a bullet and hit the head of RK Tullachandra, who was the outfit's leader and he succumbed to his injuries at 4.50 pm.
Combining the Kameng and Kabo Wakching incidents, PREPAK and its army wing Red Army started observing November 12 as Martyrs Day to pay tributes to all the martyrs who had sacrificed in the war of Manipur's sovereignty, said the statement.
