Birth anniversary of Akaba observed

The 71st birth anniversary of Chingsubam Akaba cum 2nd foundation day celebration of Pandam, a bilingual evening daily was held today at Thoyee (Thawai) village under Phungyar AC of Ukhrul district.
The Luchingpurel Chingsubam Akaba memorial journalist awards were also presented at the occasion.
The editor award was presented to Aribam Robindro Sharma, editor of Poknapham daily while reporter award for promotion of work culture (Print) was presented to chief reporter of Hueiyen Lanpao, Meisnam Karnajit.
Reporter award for promotion of work culture (Electronic) was presented to Pritam Laishram of ISTV Network.
The editor award carries a certificate, memento and Rs 20,000 while the reporter award carries a certificate, a memento and Rs 10,000 each.
Speaking at the function as the chief guest, titular king Leishemba Sanajaoba said it is now time to solve the misunderstandings among the different communities of the State.
People of the State, who have been living together since time immemorial, should ponder their claims of self-righteousness.
Sanajaoba expressed his wish that intellectuals from the hill and valley sit together and discuss the future of a united Manipur.
Blaming each other will not bring development or peace, he said.
Sanajaoba also stressed the need to maintain Manipuri identity before one's community.
Namoijam Tomba, convener, Organising Committee and executive editor of Pandam; S Ronel Meetei; ex-Minister RV Mingthing; retired IPS P Dhanakumar Singh; TNW president Sweeten Raihing; social activist T Robindro; VC R Suisa Trust Mathuimi Zimik; Sougrakpam Hemanta life time secretary, Manipur State Sumang Lila Council and RS Yarshang were the presidium members, guests of honour and special invitee respectively.
Offering of floral tributes to the photograph of Chingsubam Akaba and release of 2016 calendar of Pandam and Luwang Printers were the other highlights of the programme.
