Revive water bodies, says Ukhrul DC

With the intention of addressing the problem of water shortage in Ukhrul district, particularly in the district headquarters, Deputy Commissioner Modak Hrisheekesh Arvind has initiated a programme for reviving all the small water bodies like water pond, spring water source, local reservior etc in a phased manner.
Speaking as the chief guest of the IVR inauguration function at Kamphasom, The Deputy Commissioner sought the co-operation of the people for ensuring that the water sources are tapped to its optimum.
Ukhrul district headquarters has been reeling under acute water scarcity during the dry season as the main water source at Shirui has depleted extensively due to massive deforestation down the years.
Addressing the water scarcity problem and ensuring that the people are provided water availability in the lean season is the responsibility of all the stake holders, added the DC.
He also talked on the good work done under MGNREGS and mooted the idea of providing incentives for good performances and disincentives for poor execution of works.
SDO of Ukhrul Worshang Hungyo appreciated the schematic formation of Tangs (localities) for smooth implementation of developmental works .
ST Johny, president AHTA, Ukhrul lauded the Deputy Commissioner for his enthusiastic and relentless effort to develop the district through the available fund.
He further said that AHTA will extend maximum co-operation in taking up any developmental project in the district and at the same he assured that AHTA is looking forward to development without delay.
Johny also advocated the need to work out any outstanding issues through understanding and called upon the people to refrain from exerting undue pressure.
The programme was attended by district Congress secretary Ngaranchui, chairmen of Ukhrul 'tangs' women representatives, and other eminent leaders of Kamphasom locality, Ukhrul.
