Imphal, December 04 2021:
Rich people with ill-gotten money have ruin politics with their selfish motives and unfair means, said Wangkhei MLA Y Erabot.
While launching his house campaign from IMC ward no 21 in Wangkhei assembly constituency on Saturday, Erabot expressed concern over the increasing number of selfish politicians who use unfair means to win election.
Number of candidates who depends on money power to buy votes are increasing and at the same time number of voters who trade their votes for some mere money are also increasing.
He said that he is contesting the election with the objective to put his best efforts in eradicating the drug menace that has been haunting the state.
The bank of Imphal River opposite to Telipati has become a hotspot for drug users but everybody is turning a blind eye.
CSOs, which used to work on this issue, have also become silent.
Unless intervened, the youth of the state will lose their future, he said.
On the other hand, there are some politicians who are carrying out illegal drug trades and personnel in the paramilitary forces are also joining the trade.
Even after eight years, the authority has not been able to find out the owner of a huge drug consignment seized by the police.
Entry of such tainted people in politics has degraded the value of politics and democracy, he said and stressed the need for commitment as well as concerted efforts of both legislature and judiciary for putting an end to this trend.
Regarding the race for BJP ticket in Wangkhei assembly constituency, Erabot said that only one candidate will get the party ticket.
Though the party might have its own policy, it cannot be denied that the party will definitely suffer some setback after announcing the party candidate, he conceded.
