Shillong LFC beat KLASA FC to lift Shirui Lily Cup

Shillong Lajong FC team lifted their trophy and celebrated their victory after they defeated KLASA FC 4-3 on penalty shootout in the final of the 29th Shirui Lily Cup 2021 tournament here at TNL Ground in Ukhrul town on Saturday.
Apart from the trophy, the winning team Shillong Lajong FC was awarded with a cash prize of Rs 1,75,00.0, while the runners-up KLASA FC received a cash prize of Rs 1,25,00 along with a trophy.
The final match was a closely-fought one as the contesting teams were tied at 0-0 till the end of the full-time of 90 minute.
Penalty shootout was arranged to break the tie.
Chances of five penalty kicks each were given to each of the teams.
Midway, both Shillong Lajong FC and KLASA FC missed a single kick each.
However, KLASA FC missed yet another chance to find the net, ending the thrilling final match 4-3 in favour of Shillong Lajong FC.
The national level football tournament was organised by Ukhrul District Sports Association (UDSA), reviving the event after a lapse of 10 years.
Meanwhile, de-hoisting of the flag and musical concert brought the curtains down on the 11-day long football tournament during the closing ceremony at TNL Ground here on Saturday.
Attending the closing ceremony as chief guest, former president of UDSA Dr.Manik Shaiza urged UDSA to initiate steps to channel the energy and potentials of the youth towards sports.
"Catch them young," he shouted while stating that youngsters are not lacking talents but drug abuse and lack of sporting infrastructures are draining or constraining their potentials.
Dr Shaiza further called upon UDSA to garner support from all stakeholders to install requisite sporting infrastructures in the district.
The closing ceremony was also punctuated by musical performances from popular singers Yursari Ng Kasomwoshi, Thotsemphi Luithui, and Theithei Luithui.
Later in the evening, a musical concert was organised by UDSA at TNL Ground to entertain the crowd.
