A joint team of KSA, SUK, MSF, AMSU, AIMS and DESAM visited RIMS Hospital on Saturday and assessed the present condition of the hospital accompanied by RIMS director Prof A Santa.
Speaking in connection with the visit, DESAM president Nameirakpam Edison stated that in the last few years, Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal has seen development in many aspects, but still it can be improved to reach the level of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi and become world class health care facility, has said.
He also appealed to the state government, RIMS authority and stakeholders concerned to ensure that RIMS reaches a status equal to AIIMS in near future.
On the other hand, RIMS director Prof A Santa observed that with public support RIMS can be upgrade to the level of AIIMS.
As RIMS is one of the leading medical institutes in India, there will be not much requirement of funds from centre to upgrade the institute at par with AHMS.
He mentioned that work has been taken up to install lifts in old buildings of RIMS such as OPD, Orthopaedic, Trauma Centre and other six departments.
To make RIMS campus eco-friendly and facilitate transport of patients, very soon e-vehicles will be made available in the institute.
