Khemchand prays for peace as State celebrates Kanglen

Imphal, July 24 2026: Devotees of Lord Jagannath in large numbers celebrated Puma Yatra, locally called Kanglen, in Imphal and several places across valley districts today.

A large number of devotees including Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh and ex-MP Leishemba Sanajaoba took part in rituals at the Shree Shree Govindajee Temple.

On Facebook, Chief Minister wrote, "Today, on the auspicious occasion of Purna Jatra (Kanglen), I felt sanctified to participate in the religious services of Lord Jagannath, Bhallabhadra and Subhadra at Shree Shree Govindaji Temple in the presence of Maharaja & Ex-Rajya Sabha MP, Shri Leishemba Sanajaoba, amid a large number of devotees.

"Purna Yatra, locally known as Kanglen or the final return journey, marks the successful completion and formal conclusion of the annual 10-day Kang Chingba (Rath Yatra) festival.

It mirrors the grand chariot pulling of the first day to signify the return and final rites of the deities, Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Subhadra.

"I offer my prayers to Lord Jagannath, Bhallabhadra and Subhadra for a peaceful and prosperous Manipur, where unity and order pervades among all the communities.

May everyone be blessed with peace and a spirit of non violence.

Jai jai Shri Jagannath!!!" The ISKCON Temple in Imphal too came alive with devotees taking part in rituals and processions.

Devotees sought blessings and pulled the chariot of Lord Jagannath from the ISKCON Temple to Kwakeithel and back to the Temple premises.

Continuing its annual tradition of community service, volunteers of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), in collaboration with Manipur Seva Samiti and Seva Bharati Manipur, carried out a large-scale service initiative by distributing drinking water and lemon juice to devotees at the Shree Shree Govindajee Temple and the ISKCON Temple at Sangaiprou.

During the Kang Chingba celebrations held on July 16 and the Kanglen observed today (July 24), volunteers served drinking water and lemon juice to more than 10,000 devotees, said the RSS Pracharak Laishram Jatra Singh.

"Every year, RSS volunteers come together during Kang Chingba and Kanglen to render selfless service to devotees by distributing drinking water and lemon juice.

This tradition has been continued once again this year," he said.

A total of 75 RSS volunteers (Karyakartas) participated in the service activity.
