Imphal, December 04 2021:
Khundrakpam Kendra Development Committee organised a mega Ningol Chakkouba for over 8000 women of the constituency at Sagolmang on Saturday during which Khundrakpam MLA Th Lokeshwar and his wife Nivedita presented gifts to the women.
Interacting with the media at the event, MLA Lokeshwar said that Ningol Chakkouba falls on the second day of lunar month of Hiyangei.
However, there is also a tradition of celebrating the festival on any day during the whole month as per ones convenience or due to compelling situations.
There are several women in the constituency, who do not have brothers and who are widowed.
Many could not celebrate the festival due to Covid-19 pandemic.
Considering this, the committee organised the festival with support from his family members and around 8,900 women from all the polling stations of Khundrakpam assembly constituency participated in the event.
The gifts presented to them were made by weavers of the constituency under the initiative of his wife, he said.
Lokeshwar then urged all concerned to make the election peaceful, free and fair so that the public may choose the right candidate without any pressure.
He appealed to the ruling party not to use its money and muscle power to win the election but fight the election in the true spirit of democracy.
He is facing several roadblocks in his attempt to repair roads and set up new colleges.
One should know that those roads are not only for Congress party and their supporters and one should not put up restrictions in any type of developmental activities, Lokeshwar stressed.
On the other hand, there are some rumours of him joining BJP doing the rounds, he noted and clarified that he is not related with the claim.
He is not a person who will change his ideologies and party for some selfish motives.
BJP is the party that sparked the June 18 uprising and he will never join the party, he affirmed and appealed to the public to remember what Congress did to bring development in the state.
