Imphal, July 31 2026:
The All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) Manipur State Committee has strongly condemned the killing of a Naga Village Guard member and injuries to two others in an alleged firing incident in Noney district.
In a statement, AITUC said the incident has caused deep concern amid Manipur's prolonged violence and insecurity.
It recalled that since May 2023, armed violence has affected many indigenous communities and disrupted normal life.
The committee expressed concern that security operations have resulted in casualties among village volunteers, while armed groups responsible for violence appear to have not been effectively restrained.
AITUC urged the Government of India and authorities to conduct a prompt, impartial and transparent investigation and fix responsibility.
It stressed that lasting peace requires impartial law enforcement, civilian protection and accountability.
