Imphal, November 07 2026:
The 14 CSOs Kangleipak has hailed the High Court of Manipur's judgement which has kept census operations in Manipur in abeyance till April 30, 2027 .
The High Court passed this judgement after hearing a writ petition filed by Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA), International Peace and Social Advancement (IPSA) and Shanta Nahakpam.
Speaking to media persons at KSA office, Khoyathong today, Shanta Nahakpam said that the High Court of Manipur has also granted leave to the Registrar General of India (RGI), organisations and individuals to file draft representations along with relevant documents in support of the popular demand for updating the National Register of Citizens (NRC) with respect to Manipur.

He appealed to all people to capitalise on this opportunity given by the High Court and see that the sustained movement for updating the NRC achieves its objective.
So far the Government has not yet issued any notification for updating the NRC or which year would be adopted as the base year, Shanta said.
He urged both the State Government and the Government of India to come out with an official announcement before the State Assembly elections that the NRC would be updated with respect to Manipur.
The High Court order implies that the Government could not carry out any census operation in Manipur till April 30, 2027 even if the State's security situation improves and the Government deems it conducive for conducting census operations, he said.
The State Government must exert maximum pressure upon the Central Government during the Parliament session scheduled in December 2026 to see that the NRC is updated with 1951 as the base year, he added.
