Imphal, November 06 2026:
The Federation of Haomee (FoH) has questioned how and why the 'Kuki Rising Day' (October 17) was inserted in the State's official holiday list.
Speaking to media persons at their Kabaw Leikai office today, FoH president Sapamcha Jadumani categorically stated that there is no record of any Anglo-Kuki War or Kuki Rising Day in the history of Manipur.
If there was any event called Kuki Rising in the history of Manipur, the Government must bring out relevant documents and records, he said.
If the Government is not in a position to bring out the relevant documents and historical records, the so-called Kuki Rising Day must be removed from the State's holiday list, Jadumani said.
Follies and other acts of short-sightedness committed by successive Governments over the decades gave rise to the Kukis' outrageous demand for a separate administration, he said.
Jadumani asserted that the Government's appeasement policy toward the Kukis emboldened Kuki terrorists to launch a sustained war of aggression against the indigenous people.
There are historical records of how Chingakham Sanajaoba enlisted Kuki warriors in his revolt against Maharaj Churachand with a promise of cutting down the annual house tax to Rs 1, the FoH president said.
He said that 12 Kuki leaders who supported Sanajaoba in his revolt against the king were arrested and sent to Kohima jail.
The 12 Kuki leaders, in their letter seeking clemency, said that they were not waging war against the British or the king of Manipur but only helping Chingakham Sanajaoba in his fight for the throne, Jadumani said.
Misinterpreting this particular incident as Kuki Rising and inserting that the so-called Kuki Rising Day in the State's holiday list is a gross distortion of the history of Manipur.
In order to undo this gross distortion of history, the so-called Kuki Rising Day must be removed from the State's holiday list immediately, he added.
