Imphal, November 06 2026: Of the 17 militants pulled up from the SoO-designated camp of Sinai, 15 have been remanded in judicial custody while two have been taken under formal arrest in connection with an FIR registered at Saikul police station.

All 17 of them were arrested from Sinai camp on October 23 during a joint operation conducted by Manipur Police, QRT CRPF and CoBRA .

Following completion of their police custody period, they were produced before the Court of Judicial Magistrate First Class, Kangpokpi by a team of Yaingangpokpi police station today.

An APP of the State submitted that the 17 individuals were pulled up for verification during the joint operation on October 23 and they were found impersonating registered SoO cadres.

Apart from arresting the 17 individuals, 24 firearms, 38 magazines, a large quantity of ammunition, explo- sives, wireless communication equipment and other combat gear were recovered and seized by the joint team.

Eight of them were found impersonating KNA cadres and the remaining nine as KLA cadres using false identity.

Subsequently, they were arrested under an FIR registered at Yaingangpokpi police station under relevant sections of BNS, Arms Act, Indian Wireless Telegraphy Act and Explosive Substance Act.

The APP submitted that further investigation is underway regarding involvement of camp functionaries in sheltering the unregistered militants, impersonation, unauthorized possession of arms and violations of SoO ground rules.

The Court, after hearing the submission of the APP and on perusal of the case record, remanded the 17 individuals in judicial custody till November 20 for further investigation.

In the meantime, Saikul police filed an application for making formal arrest of two of them in connection with an FIR registered at Saikul police station.

After perusing the application, the Court granted leave to Saikul police to make formal arrest of the two.
