POL transporters' cease work strike comes into effect

Imphal, July 30 2026: As announced earlier, the cease work strike of transporters engaged in transporting petroleum and petroleum products will come into effect from today (July 31) .

In addition to halting transportation of petrol, diesel and LPG from outside the State, there will be no loading and supply of petrol and diesel from the Malom Depot to oil pumps during the "steering wheel down strike" .

Likewise, there will be no loading and supply of LPG from the Sekmai bottling plant to LPG agencies.

The POL transporters have also decided not to join movement of empty convoys from New Keithel- manbi and loaded convoys from Jiribam.

However, tankers (both empty and loaded) which got stranded on Imphal-Jiribam highway on or before July 30 will be allowed to reach their destinations, said a press release issued by the All Manipur Petroleum Transporters and Drivers Association.

It said that all petrol pumps shall remain open till their existing stocks last.

Earlier on July 15, POL transporters submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister asking the State Government to address the issue of illegal taxes and extortion carried out on NH-37 within 15 days.

Representatives of POL transporters also held a meeting with Government authorities on July 29 where many underlying issues were discussed at length.

Even as suggestions were made during the meeting for enacting a law to act against and eradicate collection of illegal taxes on National Highways, the meeting could not arrive at any concrete resolution.

Expressing regret for the inconveniences that will be caused by the cease work strike, the POL transporters have appealed to all people to support the strike.

It added that collection of illegal taxes on National Highways impacts every section of people as it unfailingly leads to artificial inflation.
