Imphal, July 31 2026:
With reports of disruptions to postal services going viral on social media, the Department of Posts has clarified that postal services across Manipur continue to function normally.
The clarification follows an incident on July 27 in which some Kuki individuals set fire to mail articles and postal bags on the Imphal-Ukhrul route near Litan police station.
In a press release issued today, Superintendent of Post Offices, Manipur Division, confirmed that while the incident was unfortunate, mail services on the Imphal-Dimapur, Imphal-Ukhrul and Imphal-Mao routes remain unaffected.
Surface and air mail operations, as well as booking services, are continuing as usual, it added.
Saying that the burning of postal articles is an act unbecoming of any citizen, the department also dismissed social media reports claiming that postal services had been suspended, describing them as false and misleading.
It urged the public not to believe or circulate such rumours, while stating that postal services are rendered impartially to all, irrespective of caste, creed or community.
Appealing to the people to refrain from interfering with postal operations as such disruptions directly affect the delivery of essential documents, medicines and financial assistance, the department added that it firmly remains committed to serving every citizen across Manipur.
