NHRC team in State

Imphal, October 22 2013:
An official team of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) led by its Chairman KG Balakrishnan arrived at Imphal today on a 3-day visit to the State for a sitting of the Full Commission which would take up a series of agendas related to human rights violation in the state.
The team will visit the 'Iron Lady' Irom Chanu Sharmila at JN Hospital on October 23 and will go to different parts of the state including Loktak Lake in Bishnupur district to take stock of the living condition of fishermen.
The visiting NHRC team would also hold discussions with the Chief Secretary, the DGP and other senior civil police and jail officers.
The topics for discussion included extra judicial killings of innocent civilians, PDS system in Manipur, medical facilities in the state, problems in surroundings of the Loktak Lake, prison reforms, bonded and child labour, manual scavenging and sanitation and human rights education at state level among the many.
On the last day of their visit, the NHRC team would meet NGOs and media.
Meanwhile, All Loktak Lake Area Fishermen's Union, Manipur (ALLAFUM) has extended warm welcome to visit of NHRC team.
The Union would also host a reception function in honour of the visiting team on October 23 .
In this regard, the Union has appealed to all the fishermen in Loktak Lake Areas Fishermen to be present at the reception.
