Civil bodies reaffirm 1951 as base-year

Civil bodies including 14 CSOs Kangleipak, representing different communities, today, took several resolutions reaffirming 1951 as the base year for updating NRC, and called for a "tripartite talk" with the Government of Manipur and the Government of India.
The resolutions reaffirming 1951 as the base year for NRC and the call for the tripartite talk were made during a seminar held at Hotel Imphal.
During the seminar, representatives of the civil bodies, community leaders, various intellectuals from Manipur University; a panel of experts from the Manipur State Population Commission and journalists evalua- ted the Manipur State Assembly resolution on the National Register of Citizens (NRC) .
Reaffirming 1951 as the base-year for the proposed NRC in Manipur, the seminar took several resolutions including a decision to form a committee representing all the CSOs of the State in connection with the issue.
The committee will spearhead the demand for updating the NRC before census and delimitation, added the resolution.
Further, the seminar resolved that the authorities concerned should arrange a tripartite talk among the Government of Manipur, Government of India and CSOs to discuss and update the NRC based on 1951 .
The Government of Ma-nipur should also strengthen the present Manipur State Population Commission (MSPC) by filling up vacant members/posts and providing an office accommodation for the corresponding committee under the MSPC, read another resolution.
The seminar further took a resolution for the MSPC to work with the Centre's High Level Committee on Demographic Change (HLCDC) .
Representatives of 14 CSOs, Kangleipak, Meitei/Meetei Tribe Union, Arambai Tenggol, Meitei Leepun, Kabui Union Manipur, Kom Union Manipur, All Manipur Muslim Organizations Coordinating Committee, Rongmei Youth Organization, Manipur Ima (Internally Displaced Persons, Manipur), All Inpui Student's Union, Thadou Inpi Manipur, Mao Union Imphal, Manipur Naga Youth Organization, Zeliangrong United Committee Manipur Valley (ZUCMV), Aimol Union Manipur, Kharam Tribe Union Manipur, Indigenous Peoples' Forum, Zeme Student's Organization Manipur, Rongmei Naga Student's Organization Manipur (RNSOM), Liangmai Naga Katimai Ruangdi Manipur (LNKRM) and Youth Rise for Change attended the seminar.
