Drive against misuse of beacon lights, flag post in vehicles intensified in Kohima

Nagaland capital Kohima is being combed since October 1 as the district administration is carrying out intense drives against the misuse of beacon lights, flag-posts, designated plates of the vehicles.
Large number of individuals are found misusing designated plates, flag-posts and beacon lights or red lights with blinkers in their vehicles.
The administration has been prompted to conduct such drives as the number of individuals using beacon lights, flag posts and designated plates without official authorisation.
The Kohima district administration is on the drive against the misuse of designated plates, flag-posts and beacon lights/red light with blinkers in the vehicles as per the notification issued by transport and communication department on June 20, 2006 and August 29, 2006 and June 10, 2009.The notification had prohibited such misuse.
According to the rules, multi-coloured red, blue and white light combination can be used by police pilot vehicle entitled to all VVIPs, recovery/break down crane on road accident duty, police vehicle on road/traffic interception duty, ambulance on emergency duty and fire tenders.
Use of designation plates (red background) and those permitted to use include additional secretaries to the government of Nagaland, head of departments, addl.
directors and equivalent officials.
ADC, SDO (C), R.O and border magistrate were included in this category.
Those people who can use red light without blinkers, designation plates and flag posts are the state chief secretary, additional chief secretary, information commissioners, commissioners, director general of police, principal secretary, commissioner and secretaries to the government of Nagaland and equivalent officials of other Central services in the state (e.g.IFS etc.) .
Officers of central services in the status of principal secretaries/commissioner and secretaries of ministers of the government of India or central government undertaking on posting in the state are also allowed to use the same.
Others included in this category are chairman and members of Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC), vigilance commissioner, advocate general, accountant general, secretaries to the government of Nagaland, vice chancellor of Nagaland University, army and military and police officers who are entitled to use regiment flag are the deputy commissioners and superintendents of police of the districts.
Red light should be kept covered with black hoot when the authorized dignitaries are not in the vehicle.
Organization names on designation plates such as white letters in blue background could be used by chairperson, deputy chairperson, members of municipal and town councils, Central government departments and undertakings under government of India (e.g.BSNL, Census, DD, SBI etc) besides state level registered NGOs, Church organization and recognized political parties.
Meanwhile, people authorized to use sirens are the state governor, the chief minister and union ministers during visits to the state; governor and chief minister of other states visiting the state and thre Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) speaker.
The people who are authorized to use red light with blinkers, designation plates and flag posts are the governor, the chief minister, the Nagaland Legislative Assembly speaker, all ministers of the states, parliamentary secretaries, deputy speakers, all members of legislative assembly and the chief information commissioner.
