She said the time has come for setting up of a separate special investigation team in Manipur Police to handle these crimes committed against women.
Sobita said crimes against women in the state has changed into a new facet and shown total obscurity as the criminals and rapists are now smart enough to topple murder cases into suicide incidents.
"Fast track courts are needed in all the districts to deal with such intricate cases," she demanded.
Babaloo Loitongbam, executive director, Human Rights Law Network, advocate Khaidem Mani, president All Manipur Bar Association (AMBA) and Chitra Ahanthem, associate editor, Imphal Free Press also spoke during the meeting.
Sobita further informed that a memorandum has been sent to the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh on Tuesday urging him for prompt action to deliver justice to all the women victims who had been raped and murdered in the state so far.
Joshina, an 18-year-old girl student of TG Higher Secondary School, Imphal, was mysteriously found dead in her abandoned house on October 10 last, the memorandum to the Prime Minister said, urging him to instruct the state police to arrest the accused in the case.
It also demanded to arrest all the accused involved in the killing of van driver M Gyanendro of Singjamei Okram Leikai.
He was found murdered at Narankonjil under Singjamei Police Station on August 16 this year.
The Ningombam Satyabhama murder case should be expedited for the justice, it urged.
Satyabhama, a research scholar of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) was found murdered at Wangkhei Loumanbi under Singjamei Police Station on April 5, 2013, it mentioned.
