Acting on an information, People for Animal (PFA) Thoubal on Sunday took possession of a young Bengal Monitor lizard from the premises of one Akoijam Brojendro of Thoubal Athokpam.
Brojendro told PFA that the lizard was found at the back of his house near a bamboo grove.
PFA found signs of resent captivity in the animal.
It might have escaped from a nearby house or released by poachers when the buyers declared that it was not a Tokay Gecko.
It is now at PFA transit shelter, a statement issued by the PFA said.
Meanwhile, as a continuation of intensified campaign of "Greet our Guest, PFA Thoubal yesterday collected two Moor hens from Malom.
The two beautiful birds were bought at Rs 250 by one Soibam Piyobata Singh of MalomTulihal Awangleikai from women fish vendors who sell fish door to door.
Piyobarta then informed PFA to collect the birds.
It would be released tomorrow at a suitable site, the PFA said.
Urging women fish vendors to immediately stop taking wild birds from poachers for merchandising, the PFA said that the act could cost both parties a huge fine or imprisonment for months.
