Rally taken out against rising crimes on women

Taking serious note over the spiralling crime graph against women and children in Manipur, as mass rally was taken out here today to draw the attention of the Government for taking up necessary precautionary measures.
After the rally which was flagged off from Chingamakhong, a public meeting was also held under the theme of ''Crime against humanity'' at Kakwa Pukhri Achouba Community hall at Kakwa Bazar.
The event was organised by Women Action for Development (WAD) in collaboration with various NGOs, CBOs and family members of the victims.
After all the participants assembled at the premises of Leishemba Marup located opposite to Manipur College at 10 am, the rally was flagged off from there and proceeded till Kakwa Bazar where the public meeting was held.
Among those who spoke at the meeting, Secretary of WAD Sobita Mangshatabam expressed serious concern over continual incidents of rape and murder in Manipur and the failure of the State police to initiate investigation into such cases for arresting and punishment of the culprits.

Pointing out that the nature of crimes committed against women and children in Manipur has changed into a new facet wherein the criminals/rapists are now smart enough to topple murder cases into suicide incidents, Sobita stressed on the need for setting up of a separate special investigation team in Manipur Police to handle crimes committed against women and children in Manipur.
Moreover, Fast track courts are urgency needed in all the districts of Manipur today to deal with such intricate cases," she added.
Babloo Loitongbam, Executive Director of Human Rights Law Network; Advocate Khaidem Mani, who is also the President of All Manipur Bar Association (AMBA) and Chitra Ahanthem, Associate Editor of Imphal Free Press were also among those who addressed he meeting.
After the end of the mass rally cum public meeting, a memorandum was faxed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh urging for prompt action to arrest rapists and criminals so as to deliver justice to all the women victims who had been raped and murdered in the state so far.
The memorandum also documented the incidents of rape of a girl at Yairipok by a VDF personnel; killing of Sana alias Joshina, a class XII student in T.G.Hr Sec.
School, student), killing of Van Driver Gyanendro Singh and that of Ningombam Shatyabhama, who was found dead at Wangkhei Loumanbi under Singjamei P.S.on 5th April, 2013 .
