Attack on Lhungjang village condemned

Kangpokpi, September 07 2026: Many have strongly condemned the arson attack on Lhungjang Primary School, Lhungjang Village, T Waichong Sub-Division, Kangpokpi district this morning.

Thadou Inpi Manipur (TIM) while condemning the arson attack demands an independent investigation into the attack, immediate and sustained security for Lhungjang, and a thorough review of how its earlier warnings were handled.

Thadou Inpi Manipur in a press release said that no armed group, whether Kuki or Naga, has any right to target, intimidate, occupy or use Lhungjang as an operational area and urged the Government of Manipur to ensure that Lhungjang and its surrounding areas remain free from armed militant activity, take firm legal action against any armed groups found operating there, and immediately deploy neutral Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) to replace the State Police forces currently deployed in the village.

The Kuki Zo Village Volunteer, Twilang Lhang in a release strongly condemned the barbaric attack on Lhungjang Village today despite the presence and deployment of Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) personnel and security forces in the village.

It further called on the Government to immediately take concrete and decisive measures to protect Kuki villages and prevent further attacks.

Meanwhile, the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), Sadar Hills, termed today's attack as a "political conspiracy" accusing armed cadres of the NSCN-IM and ZUF (Kamson) of deliberately provoking violence to destabilise Kangpokpi and fuel political pressure against Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Nemcha Kipgen.
