Discuss farmers' issue in Assembly, says COCOMI Farmers' Wing

Imphal, September 06 2026: Urging the Government to release compensation for crop loss, the farmers' wing of the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity has urged the legislators of both the ruling and Opposition parties to discuss farmers' issues in the ongoing Assembly session.

Even as the Assembly session is concluding tomorrow, the legislators failing to discuss the farmers' issue so far when thousands of acres of paddy fields are lying idle for over 3 years since May 2023 is very unfortunate, said the farmers' wing co-convenor Konthoujam Thoiba, speaking to reporters at the committee's office at Lamphelpat today.

Since May 2023, farmers have been denied access to their paddy fields located in the peripheries of the valley.

With their fields are lying idle, the farmers have lost their livelihoods, Thoiba said.

Despite repeated appeals made to the Government and relevant authorities, the affected farmers have not been given appropriate compensation, he added.

Even though the Government had released compensation for the year 2023, many farmers of Ikou and Yengkhuman were left out and not given their share of the compensation, Thoiba said.

Further, the Government has not yet released the due compensation for the year 2024 and 2025, he added.

With the fields lying waste for over 3 years and without any compensation received, the farmers are facing extreme hardships.

While taking up steps to give them access to their paddy fields, the Government must immediately release the due compensations, Thoiba said.

He urged the legislators of the ruling and Opposition parties to discuss the issues facing the farmers and take resolutions to address them.
