Imphal, September 07 2026: The attack at the border villages of Z Choro, Namlee and Wanglee in Kamjong district close to Indo-Myanmar border on May 7, 2026 is being investigated by Manipur Police, according to Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam.

Replying to a question raised by Congress MLA K Ranjit Singh in the State Assembly today, the Home Minister said that one person was injured and 23 houses were burnt down in the militants' attack.

On being asked whether Myanmar based rebel group KNF(B) was involved in the attack and arson, the Home Minister said that the investigation is still going on and it would be too early to comment on whether the said militant group was involved or not.

Recalling Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam's remark that the attack at the border villages was an internal aggression while local villagers and MLA Leishiyo Keishing pointed fingers at Myanmar-based KNF(B), K Ranjit asked whether the local villagers and the local MLA were wrong.

To this, Govindas clarified that he never said the attack was internal aggression.

The State Government has assessed the damages in all the villages and the loss is totalled over Rs 5 crore, he said and added that the construction of houses has already begun.

Govindas Konthoujam said that he along with some MLAs visited the border villages with relief materials just after the incident occurred.

The Home Minister stated that adequate security arrangements have now been made in the area following the incident.

To another query raised by K Ranjit, Govindas maintained that the resettlement and rehabilitation of IDPs will be completed once the law and order situation improves in the State.

He informed the House that no compensation has been provided to the IDPs for the loss of movable assets to date.

Replying to the supplementary question which sought a time period for providing compensation for the losses of movable assets of IDPs, the Home Minister maintained that the Government would look into the matter of providing compensation after the resettlement and rehabilitation of IDPs are completed.
