MAHUD Minister lauds contributions of women in promotion of handloom, handicrafts sectors

MAHUD Minister, Yumnam Khemchand has categorically stated that 'women folk of the State play a major role in safeguarding and promoting the indigenous handicraft and handloom products thereby enhancing the economic status of Manipur' .
He made the above statement while speaking as the chief guest at 'Churachandpur and Pherzawl Day' held on the 8th day of the ongoing Manipur International Textile Expo (MANITEX), 2022 at Urban Haat, Nilakuthi.
The Minister also expressed the most of the weaving work in the State are done by the women majorly and they also wear and promote traditional attire more as compared to men.
Therefore they make significant contributions in safeguarding and fostering the indigenous handloom and handicraft products of the State.

Presenting the presidential address, Advisor to Chief Minister and Thanlon AC MLA, Vungzagin Valte said that handloom and handicraft sectors are one of the key sources of livelihood of many.
In view of the above, he emphasized on the need of making sincere efforts to promote these sectors.
Maintaining that bamboos are grown in abundance in Churachandpur and Pherzawl districts, he said that if these naturally grown bamboo are put into effective use, it will lead to a boom in State's economic status.
Churachandpur AC MLA, L.M, Khaute; Additional Chief Secretary P.Vaiphei and Handlooms and Textiles Director, K. Lamlee Kamei also attended the event as the guests of honour.
