Imphal, November 12 2022:
Farmer's Development Co-Operative Society Limited has demanded the IFCD (water resources department) to provide compensation to those farmers, whose paddy crops spread in over 50 'Pari' at Poiroupat Loukol under Andro assembly constituency are staring at imminent crop failure due to rainfall deficit and absence of irrigation network.
In a release, Society's secretary Kh Tomchou informed that there is no possibility of paddy yield in 50 Pari of field while another area of 10 Pari would have minimum yield.
While holding incompetency and inefficiency of the Water Resources Department (formerly IFCD) accountable for failure of the crops, the secretary said that paddy production could have been ensured to some extent in-spite of the poor seasonal rainfall had the department provided irrigation system.
Reiterating the demand for extending compensation by the Department, the secretary cautioned that the farmers will launch intense agitations if authorities concerned ignore its demands.
