Senapati, November 12 2022:
Mount Everest College, Senapati organised a one-day state level workshop on 'National Education Policy (NEP) 2020: Its implementation, issues and challenges' at the college's auditorium.
The event was organised by IQAC & Research Committee of the college.
Prof W Chandbabu Singh, registrar Manipur University, and Prof I Ganbir Singh, HOD Department of English and Cultural Studies (Manipur University) , attended the workshop as resource persons.
Prof Gambir stated that NEP 2020 is the first education policy of the contemporary century which replaces National Policy on Education (NPE) of 1986 .
The new policy brings many fundamental changes in education system and teacher education too.
NEP suggests learning of regional languages outlining the "3 Language Formula" to be implemented in secondary education - the instruction of the English language which is the official language of the state where the school is based.
Language education is essential to reduce the gulf between the "Intelligentsia and the masses." Although the decision to adopt Hindi as the national language has proven controversial, the policy calls for the use and learning of Hindi to be encouraged uniformly to promote a common language for all Indians, he explained.
The professor continued that there might be lapses in NEP but their intention is to see those problems and implement it in the right spirit.
For any problem that may rise, he further urged all concerned to put up it in writing so as to remind the officials for discussion of the issue.
Prof W Chandbabu Singh while informing that the implementation of the NEP 2020 has started in true spirit, urged all to read 65-66 pages of the NEP to get familiar with its concept, modalities and strategies.
The registrar present ed the scope and coverage of the Under-Graduate Program Ordinance 2021, core courses, elective courses, ability enhance course, value addition course (VAC), challenges on skill enhancement courses like hard skills and soft skills, value added course, credit transfer, MOOCs/SWAYAM courses, choice based credit system, ABC/NAD, holistic and multidisciplinary education, attitude of faculty, additional workload and competence of teaching the courses.
Earlier, Gonmei Maithuanlungpou, acting principal Mount Everest College, gave a welcome address.
