Imphal, November 12 2022:
As a part of its protest movement of exerting pressure on the state government for sending recommendation to the centre for inclusion of Meetei/Meitei in the ST list, Scheduled Tribe Demand Committee Manipur (STDCM) submitted memorandum to Keishamthong MLA Nishikant Sapam and Sagolband MLA Rk Imo on Saturday.
Under the aegis of Co-ordinating Body of STDCM, representatives of different organisations went to residences of MLA Nishikant located at Thouda Bhabok Leikai and MLA Rk Imo at Sagolband.
Speaking in this regard, MLA Nishikant opined that the demand is not meant to violate the rights of other communities and further stressed the need for making the leaders of the central government know about the demand.
Other communities should also support the movement as owning 80 per cent of the land by 20 per cent of the population is not right, he said, adding that there is the need to find a solution.
Instead of simply squabbling about the issue with one another, the right decision should be taken after a debate in a proper platform by taking consideration of all the arguments from both sides for breaking the impasse, Nishikant stressed.
Meanwhile, MLA Rk Imo said that the demand of STDCM is rational and further assured of supporting the demand when it is brought up in the assembly.
