CKLA cadre netted; grenade attack bid foiled

Imphal, November 12 2022:
A combined team of 36 Assam Rifles and Churachandpur police station team arrested a cadre of Chin Kuki Liberation Army (CKLA) identified as Hemkhothang Bake (46), son of Lhunkholet Baite of Bisanmual but residing at K Vangphai village, both in Churachandpur district, along with 9mm pistol and live ammunition from Dorcas hall, New Lamka along Tiddim road on Friday.
According to police report, the combined team deployed on frisking and checking duty near Dorcas hall stopped Hemkhothang Baite for checking around 7:50 pm Friday as the Yamaha Ray ZR he was riding on had no without registration number.
When frisked, he was found carrying a Pietro Beretta 9mm pis tol, magazine with nine live rounds and was subsequently arrested.
During initial interrogation, he identified himself as CKLA's self-styled Lt colonel and Churachandpur town commander.
A PRO IGAR (S) release also confirmed that Churachandpur Battalion of IGAR (South) in a joint operation with Manipur Police apprehended a CKLA cadre at Dorcas Veng on Friday with one 9mm pistol and 11 live rounds.
The accused along with the recovered items has been handed over to Churachandpur police station, where a case has been registered for further investigation.
Meanwhile, Somsai Battalion Assam Rifles of IGAR (South) in a' joint operation with Police Bomb Disposal Squad foiled a grenade attack to target locals in Ukhrul town on Friday.
In a release, PRO IGAR (S) informed that during a joint operation, troops of Somsai Battalion and Ukhrul Police detected a grenade in Ukhrul town.
The entire area was cordoned off and traffic diverted to prevent any loss of life and property.
Later, the Police Bomb Disposal Squad neutralised the grenade securely, it added.
