Imphal, November 12 2022:
The 15-day workshop on 'Rite-de-passage' of Sanamahism jointly organised by Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board and Manipur University of Culture (MUC) concluded on Friday at Lainingthou Sanamahi temple complex.
The concluding session of the workshop was attended by MLA L Rameshwor as chief guest, MUC vice chancellor Paonam Gunindro as president and Manipur Handloom & Handicraft Corporation Limited chairman MLA Kh Ibomcha as guest of honour.
Speaking at the event, Rameshwor assured that he will pressurise the state government to increase budget allocation for Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple Board (LSTB) from this year.
He said that Meetei community had reached a critical stage due to its inability to bring unity and self-styled nature of many members but some improvements have been brought now as many members of community have realised mistakes and managed to bring unity at least to some extent.
It is very fortunate that chief minister N Biren has been working towards bringing unity of the Meetei apart from preserving culture, tradition and religion of the community, he added.
Regarding ILP pass, the MLA said whereabouts of around 52,000 outsiders who entered Manipur are yet to be traced and some of them were found to have married local women mostly in Keirao AC.
Nevertheless, the present government under the leadership of chief minister Biren has been working towards detection of outsiders possessing outdated ILP passes and illegal foreign nationals particularly the Myanmarese, he said and thanked CM Biren for his initiative in this matter.
In his speech, Paonam Gunindro said that the workshop on rite de-passage of birth, death and marriage as per Sanamahism was a success as 255 delegates from different corners of the state participated.
Every religion in the world has own rite-de passage and the same is true for Sanamahism, which espouses tradition, culture and value system of the Meetei society, he said, adding that a person needs to understand rite-de passage of Sanamahism if wants to know Meetei culture.
