Torch rally taken out against liquor legalisation

Imphal, November 12 2022:
In continuation of the protest being launched by Coalition Against Drugs & Alcohol (CADA) and other women's organisations against the state government's decision to legalise liquor, a mass torch rally was taken out jointly by All Manipur Women Social Reformation & Development Samaj (Nupi Samaj), Women Empowerment Association, Yumnam Khunou Awang Leikai and CADA at Yumnam Khunou in Imphal East district at 7 pm on Friday.
In a release, CADA informed that during the rally which passed through various areas of Yumnam Khunou, protestors shouted slogans against legalisation of liquor in the state and demanded the government to revoke its decision.
Meanwhile, a sit-in protest was organised jointly by Nupi Samaj, Langthabal Lep Makha Leikai Nupi Marup and CADA Imphal West District Committee at Langthabal Lep Makha Leikai, Imphal West district on Saturday.
One of the protestors, Langthabal Lep Makha Leikai Nupi Marup president Thiyam (o) Padma asserted that everyone knows the bad effects of alcohol on families and society.
"How essential is drinking liquor? Can people not survive without it? Do they not know about good or bad liquor? Is it only meira paibi activists who care about complete ban on alcohol?" she asked a serious of questions, while demanding the government to roll back its decision to legalise liquor so as to save Manipuri society.
